The third panel segment was devoted to small-scale and artisanal fishing and was launched by Fabio Hazin, Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department, Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Brazil, and Sidi El Moctar Ould Mohamed Abdallahi, Head of Coastal Fisheries Development, Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Mauritania. Both provided information on the contribution of this fisheries sub-sector to food security and poverty alleviation as well as the difficulties faced by small-scale fisheries, and suggested possible measures.
