• Ms. Wandel (Denmark), speaking on behalf of the Nordic countries, said that Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cape Verde, Dominica, Eritrea, Haiti, Madagascar, Mauritania, Mozambique, the Niger, the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Swaziland, Tajikistan and Tunisia had joined in sponsoring the draft resolution.

• Ms. Wandel (Denmark) said that the absolute prohibition of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment was a fundamental principle of human rights, clearly enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and reaffirmed in all relevant international and regional human rights instruments.
