    وما يستوي البحران هذا عذب فرات سائغ شرابه وهذا ملح أجاج ومن كلّ تأكلون لحما طريّا وتستخرجون حلية تلبسونها وترى الفلك فيه مواخر لتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرون
  • It is He who has subdued the sea that you may eat fresh meat from it , and obtain ornaments to wear . You see the ships plough through it that you may seek of His bounties and , perhaps , be grateful .
    « وهو الذي سخَّر البحر » ذلله لركوبه والغوص فيه « لتأكلوا منه لحماً طرياً » هو السمك « وتستخرجوا منه حليه تلبسونها » هي اللؤلؤ والمرجان « وترى » تبصر « الفلك » السفن « مواخر فيه » تمخر الماء ، أي تشقه يجريها فيه مقبلة ومدبرة بريح واحدة « ولتبتغوا » عطف على لتأكلوا ، تطلبوا « من فضله » تعالى بالتجارة « ولعلكم تشكرون » الله على ذلك .
  • Alike are not two bodies of water : This one is sweet and fresh and pleasant to drink , and this one brine and bitter ; yet you get fresh meat to eat from both , and take out ornaments to wear . You see how the ships churn through them so that you may seek of His bounty and , perhaps , give thanks .
    « وما يستوي البحران هذا عذب فرات » شديد العذوبة « سائغ شرابه » شربه « وهذا ملح أجاج » شديد الملوحة « ومن كل » منهما « تأكلون لحما طريا » هو السمك « وتستخرجون » من الملح ، وقيل منهما « حلية تلبسونها » هي اللؤلؤ والمرجان « وترى » تُبصر « الفلك » السفن « فيه » في كل منهما « مواخر » تمخر الماء ، أي تشقه بجريها فيه مقبلة ومدبرة بريح واحدة « لتبتغوا » تطلبوا « من فضله » تعالى بالتجارة « ولعلكم تشكرون » الله على ذلك .

    « وهو الذي سخَّر البحر » ذلله لركوبه والغوص فيه « لتأكلوا منه لحماً طرياً » هو السمك « وتستخرجوا منه حليه تلبسونها » هي اللؤلؤ والمرجان « وترى » تبصر « الفلك » السفن « مواخر فيه » تمخر الماء ، أي تشقه يجريها فيه مقبلة ومدبرة بريح واحدة « ولتبتغوا » عطف على لتأكلوا ، تطلبوا « من فضله » تعالى بالتجارة « ولعلكم تشكرون » الله على ذلك .
