وعلى إثر وصول موظفي السفارة إلى عين المكان صبيحة ذلك اليوم، اكتشفوا أن مجهولين كتبوا بالدهان الأحمر على مساحة تناهز عشرة أمتار مربعة شعارا بالإسبانية يقول: (“لا تصوتوا!، لا للانتخابات، ونعم للحرب الشعبية!، الحزب الشيوعي البيروفي، عاش الرئيس غونزالو، الحزب الشيوعي البيروفي”) وتحته شعار المطرقة والمنجل.
