The procedures followed at immigration and passport offices to combat the forgery of passports entail the manual verification of documents through direct contact in order to ascertain actual characteristics. In certain offices this is done by checking passports using special equipment to detect forgery. Some of the equipment has been provided by embassies which have given training to immigration and passport officers and personnel.
