• The struggle of indigenous peoples in Ecuador has led to the State recognition of indigenous education systems through the establishment of the National Department of Intercultural and Bilingual Education, which is managed by indigenous peoples, while in Bolivia, the Programa de Formación en Educación Intercultural Bilingüe para los Países Andinos, a cooperation between the San Simon University in Cochabamba, Bolivia, and a bilateral organization has awarded Masters degrees in linguistic, cultural and bilingual education to over 100 indigenous students from six Andean countries.
