The Committee elects one of its members as chairperson or aksakal (white beard), as well as a deputy, a secretary and councillors selected from among experienced elders.
وتنتخب اللجنة أحد أعضائها رئيساً (aksakal أو الشيخ)، كما تنتخب نائباً وأميناً ومستشارين تختارهم من بين المسنين ذوي الخبرة.
Ms. Aksakal (Sweden), speaking as the youth representative for her delegation, said that human development and democracy were not possible if over half the population was left out, and meaningful youth participation meant that the strengths, interests and abilities of youth must be recognized and nurtured.
