• The other geoengineering idea, solar radiation management( SRM), envisions cooling Earth by putting mirrors in space, pumpingsalt spray from ships into clouds to make them brighter, or fillingthe stratosphere with a sulfuric acid cloud, just as volcaniceruptions occasionally do.
  أما الفكرة الأخرى فيما يتصل بهندسة الأرض فهي تتلخص في إدارةأشعة الشمس، وتدور هذه الفكرة حول تبريد الأرض من خلال وضع مرايا فيالفضاء، وضخ رذاذ الملح من السفن على السحب لجعلها أكثر سطوعاً، أوحقن طبقة الستراتوسفير في الغلاف الجوي بسحابة من حامض الكبريتيك، كماتفعل الثورانات البركانية عادة.
• Other methods of geoengineering – that is, consciouslymanipulating the climate – include painting the roofs of houseswhite in order to increase the reflection of sunlight, coveringdeserts with reflective plastic, and fertilizing the seas with ironin order to increase the absorption of CO2.
  ان الوسائل الاخرى للهندسة الجيولوجية – اي القيام بالتلاعببالمناخ مع ادراكك لذلك – تتضمن صباغة اسقف المنازل باللون الابيض مناجل زيادة انعكاس ضوء الشمس او تغطية الصحاري ببلاستيك عاكس او تسميدالبحار بالحديد من اجل زيادة امتصاص ثاني اكسيد الكربون.
• We have to be able to quantify the benefits, risks, andcosts of geoengineering, and compare them to the benefits, risks,and costs of our other options, so that we can make an informeddecision. SRM might be needed in a planetary emergency – say, ifcontinued warming rapidly accelerates ice-sheet melting andsea-level rise, or if it accelerates methane and CO2 emissions fromthawing tundra, which would then accelerate the warmingitself.
  إن إدارة أشعة الشمس قد تكون مطلوبة في مواجهة حالات الطوارئالكوكبية ـ ولنقل إذا تسبب الانحباس الحراري المستمر في التعجيلبذوبان الغطاء الجليدي وارتفاع مستوى سطح البحر، أو إذا تسبب فيالتعجيل بانبعاث الميثان وثاني أكسيد الكربون مع ذوبان الجليد فيمنطقة التندرا، وهو ما قد يؤدي إلى التعجيل بالانحباس الحراريذاته.
