• July 1998 The Act Amending the Civil Code and the Labour Courts Act (Gesetz zur Änderung des Bürgerlichen Gesetzbuches und des Arbeitsgerichtsgesetzes) enters into force on 3 July 1998. The Act is in response to the judgment of the European Court of Justice dated 22 April 1997 (file ref. C-180-95), in which the Court reached the conclusion that the regulations extant in Germany concerning equal treatment of men and women when initiating employment were in part incompatible with European law.
