  فإذا انتقلنا إلى العراق فالمأساة كبيرة ولكن الموقف العربي منها واضح منذ اللحظات الأولى لسقوط النظام السابق، وهو مساعدة العراق الجديد على عبور الأزمة الضخمة التي كان واضحا أنها في سبيلها إلى الظهور فور وقوع الحرب على العراق في مارس 2003، ورغم الشكوك الكبيرة التي صاحبت هذه الحرب بالنسبة للأهداف الحقيقة وراءها، فقد قبل النظام العربي أن يشغل مجلس الحكم الانتقالي الذي أنشئ آنذاك مقعد العراق في الجامعة العربية احتضاناً للعراق وحفاظاً على كيانه ومستقبله، ومن ثم أضفي الشرعية على الوضع الجديد رغم أنه كان محل جدل كبير، ثم اقترح النظام العربي مسار المصالحة الوطنية كمخرج للازمة الطاحنة فيه، وهو ما بشر بتقدم في حينه لولا قوى سلبية عملت على نسف كل فرص المصالحة ليبقى العراق يعانى الطائفية والمذهبية ومن ثم يعانى من الانفصام الوطني ومظاهره الدموية.
