• At the opening session, Mr. Jouni Lind, State Secretary from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland, welcomed experts and participants to the workshop, Koli and Finland.

• The assailants carried out their attacks in the localities of Dhessa, Duma, Nyali, Dzatha, Kiza, Ngazba, Jissa, Kpatiz, Koli, Lera, Buki, Ndjala and Kpaluba using edged weapons — machetes, axes, spears and arrows — and firearms.

• In the pan-European context, the workshop on “Forests in the changing environment”, held in Koli, Finland, from 3 to 5 September 2008 (see E/CN.18/2009/14), highlighted key priorities for the Forum's eighth session.

• I have the honour to inform you that the Government of the Republic of Finland hosted the pan-European workshop entitled “Forests in the changing environment” in Koli, Finland, from 3 to 5 September 2008.
