• High Contracting Parties were able to hear experiences from a high-level panel which included Mr. Herbert Baryayebwa, Commissioner for Disabilities, Uganda; Ms. Lourdes de Morales, Executive Director, National Council for Persons with Disabilities, El Salvador; Ms. Sheree Bailey, Victim Assistance Expert, GICHD; and Mr. Najmuddian Helal, Head of the ICRC Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Centre in Kabul and himself an ERW survivor.

• Ms. Helal (Canada), speaking on behalf also of Australia and New Zealand, said that the three countries placed the highest priority on promoting and protecting the rights of the child. The Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocols were fundamental to the realization of those rights.
  السيدة هلال (كندا) تحدثت أيضاً بالنيابة عن استرالياً ونيوزيلندا: فقالت إن الدول الثلاث تولي اهتماماً كبيراً إلى تعزيز وحماية حقوق الطفل وإنه لضمان ممارستها تأتي أهمية اتفاقية حقوق الطفل وبروتوكولاتها الاختيارية.
• Ms. Helal (Canada), speaking also on behalf of Australia and New Zealand, said that, while the three countries had joined the consensus on the draft resolution, they remained concerned that it did not do justice to the important work achieved by the international community in its efforts to eliminate violence against women, through recent international instruments and programmes of action which set standards for national and international action in that area.
