• The National Programme on Women and Health, started at around the same time, is aimed at integrating a gender perspective into all national policies and programmes across the health sector. Its key priorities are meeting women's health-care needs throughout the life cycle and addressing the challenges that women face as health-care professionals and care-givers within the family (Langer and Catino, 2006).
