• The Dialogue, held in The Vaal, South Africa in February 2009, was jointly funded by UNDP, the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa, ECA, and supported by financial and other contributions from Germany, the NEPAD secretariat and the Department of Public Information.

• It organized a senior media dialogue on 19 and 20 February 2009 in Vaal, South Africa aimed at improving communication about NEPAD amongst continental journalists by providing them with stories and up-to-date information about NEPAD projects, and by creating opportunities for direct contact and interface with senior officials and decision makers from the NEPAD secretariat and the AU Commission.
  ونظمت المجموعة حواراً لكبار الإعلاميين يومي 19 و 20 شباط/ فبراير 2009 في مدينة فال ، جنوب أفريقيا، هدفه تحسين الاتصالات مع الصحفيين في القارة بشأن مبادرة نيباد، وذلك عن طريق تزويدهم بالوقائع الإخبارية وآخر المستجدات عن مشاريع مبادرة نيباد، ومن خلال توفير فرص للاتصال المباشر والتفاعل مع كبار المسؤولين وصناع القرار في أمانة مبادرة نيباد ومفوضية الاتحاد الأفريقي. وحضر الحوار 60 مشاركاً.
• Sixty participants attended the dialogue, which ended with the adoption of the Vaal Consensus, in which participants pledged to continue popularizing Africa's priority programmes and strategies for improving the communications and outreach activities of the African Union and its NEPAD programme.
  وفي نهاية الاجتماع، أُعتمد توافق آراء فال الذي تعهد المشاركون من خلاله بمواصلة التعريف ببرامج أفريقيا واستراتيجياتها ذات الأولوية لتحسين أنشطة الاتصال والتوعية الخاصة بالاتحاد الأفريقي وبرنامج مبادرة نيباد التابع له.
• Participants agreed on key recommendations for further action and the consensus document. The Vaal Consensus recognized the pivotal role of the media in the overall development of Africa and urged the African Union Commission, the NEPAD and the African Peer Review Mechanism secretariats, United Nations entities and other development partners to open active channels of communication, to facilitate information exchange, and to work towards the strengthening of the African media for genuine citizen journalism.
  واتفق المشاركون على توصيات رئيسية باتخاذ مزيد من الإجراءات وعلى توافق آراء فال الذي سلم بالدور المحوري الذي تؤديه وسائل الإعلام في تنمية أفريقيا بوجه عام وحث مفوضية الاتحاد الأفريقي وأمانتي النيباد والآلية الأفريقية لاستعراض الأقران وكيانات الأمم المتحدة وغيرها من الشركاء في التنمية على فتح قنوات اتصال فعلية وتيسير تبادل المعلومات والعمل من أجل تعزيز وسائل الإعلام الأفريقية لكي تصبح صحافة مواطنين حقيقية.
