In an article, entitled “Les droits de l'homme, trame de notre existence” (Human rights, the fabric of our lives), published in Le Monde on 9 December 1999, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan, spoke of the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance and the Follow-up Plan of Action for the United Nations Year for Tolerance and stressed how vital tolerance is, saying that, without it, all human rights are doomed to remain a dead letter.
وفي مقال معنون “حقوق الإنسان، نسيج وجودنا”، نشرته صحيفة لوموند بتاريخ 9 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 1999، تكلم الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، السيد كوفي عنان، عن إعلان المبادئ بشأن التسامح وخطة العمل من أجل متابعة سنة الأمم المتحدة للتسامح، وأكد على الأهمية الحيوية للتسامح، قائلا إن حقوق الإنسان، بدون التسامح، هي مجرد حروف جوفاء.
