• A project on capacity development in geographic information systems for the land-based sources regional activity centre at the Centre for Engineering and Environmental Management of Bays and Coasts (Centro de ingeniería y manejo ambiental de bahías y costas) in Cuba aims to develop the institutional capabilities of the centre in the use of geographic information systems.

Between December 2008 and February 2009 the country office formulated and approved a programme to support a culture of peace and the strengthening of national capacities for prevention and constructive management of conflict, in which it was envisioned that partnerships would be established among the President of the Council of Ministers (the implementing partner), the national Ombudsperson, governmental and nongovernmental institutions and other entities involved in the issue of conflict prevention and management.
