Water quality: More than half the world's major rivers and many coastal environments are seriously polluted, leading to the degradation of surrounding ecosystems such as wetlands, bird habitats, fish nurseries, sea grasses and coral reefs, and threatening the health and livelihood of the people who depend on them.
