This is related to the natural variability of general circulation patterns in the global atmosphere, but particularly to variations within the circum-polar vortex in the lower stratosphere over Antarctica.

The project consists of observing the dynamics of the Antarctic winter polar vortex using an original method specially developed for this purpose: a flotilla of about 20 balloons flying at a constant altitude in the lower stratosphere for several months.
ويتألف المشروع من رصد حركية الدوامة القطبية الشتوية في القارة القطبية الجنوبية باستخدام أسلوب مبتكر استحدث خصيصا لهذا الغرض: يتألف من أسطول من حوالي 20 بالونا تحلّّق على ارتفاع ثابت في الغلاف الجوي الطبقي السفلي لمدة عدة أشهر.

They provided information on long-term atmospheric CO2 levels, the risks for large-scale processes (such as changes of the North Atlantic circulation, polar vortex or intertropical convergence zone) posed by climate change, Atlantic thermocline circulation mapping in global carbon circulation, etc.
كما قدمت معلومات عن مستويات ثاني أكسيد الكربون في الغلاف الجوي على المدى البعيد، والأخطار المحتملة على العمليات الواسعة النطاق (مثل تغيرات الدوران في شمال الأطلسي والدوامة القطبية ومنطقة الالتقاء الواقعة بين المدارين) والناجمة عن تغير المناخ ورسم خرائط دوران الهبوط الحراري الأطلسي في دوران الكربون العالمي، إلخ. وذكرت أن العديد من هذه النتائج ساهمت في التقرير التقييمي الثالث.
