Some drafting adjustments were suggested resulting from concerns regarding common commercial usage of terms, including possible clarification of the treatment of the carriage of goods in the bulk and parcel trade, since it was thought that courts in the future might refer to the characteristics of a trade rather than to the transport documents or the underlying party relationships in determining the applicability of the draft convention.
