Its major objectives are: (a) to develop possible molecular, cellular, physiological and community indicators of coral bleaching that can reliably detect early stress signals; (b) to examine potential reef coral mechanisms for adaptation/acclimatization to global environmental change; and (c) to investigate the long-term responses of reef corals to large-scale changes in environmental variables.
وأهم أهدافه الرئيسية: (أ) وضع المؤشرات المتعلقة بالجزيئات والخلايا والمؤشرات الفسيولوجية والمجتمعية لزوال لون المرجان التي يمكن أن يعتد بقدرتها على اكتشاف علامات الإجهاد المبكرة؛ و (ب) بحث الآليات الممكنة لتكيـف/تأقلـم الشعاب المرجانيــة مــع التغير البيئي العالمــي؛ و (ج) تحري استجابة الشعاب المرجانية في الأجل الطويل للتغيرات الواسعة النطاق في المتغيرات البيئية.
