It is an incontestable fact, however, that existing international legal mechanisms only prohibit the deployment in outer space of such weapons, but are not concerned with preventing the deployment or use in outer space of new systems of weapons of mass destruction and their components, such as lasers, particle beams, X-rays and kinetic weapons.
