• In November 1970, the Congress of the Arab Socialist Ba`th Party was held and a new party leadership was elected under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General, Lieutenant General Hafez Al-Assad. The corrective movement was declared, with a basic programme that included establishment of the Progressive National Front (PNF), creation of the People's Assembly and the preparation of a permanent constitution for the country.
  وفي تشرين الثاني من عام 1970 انعقد مؤتمر حزب البعث العربي الاشتراكي، فانتخبت قيادة جديدة للحزب برئاسة الأمين العام الفريق حافظ الأسد، وتم إعلان الحركة التصحيحية، وتضمن برنامجها الأساسي إنشاء الجبهة الوطنية التقدمية، وإحداث مجلس للشعب وإعداد دستور دائم للبلاد.
• The main purpose of these plans is to build the foundations of social equity and to achieve economic development. Since 1970, with the advent of the Corrective Movement, Syria has taken the approach of economic pluralism, whereby the public, private and mixed-economy sectors play their roles in economic and social development and the emphasis is placed on the lead role of the public sector. However, the nature and size of each sector of the national economy have not remained static throughout the successive phases of development but have been shaped by the economic and social requirements of each phase. Moreover, social issues have always been accorded importance in Syria's economic policy.
  وحالياً تم وضع الخطة الخمسية العاشرة، والهدف الأساسي من هذه الخطط هو إرساء قواعد العدالة الاجتماعية وتحقيق التنمية الاقتصادية، فقد انطلق النهج الاقتصادي في سورية منذ عام 1970 ومع بداية الحركة التصحيحية على قاعدة التعددية الاقتصادية حيث يؤدي كل من القطاع العام والخاص والمشترك دوره في عملية التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية مع التأكيد على الدور القيادي للقطاع العام، إلا أن طبيعة وحجم كل قطاع في هيكل الاقتصاد الوطني لم يبقيا ثابتين طيلة مراحل التنمية المتتالية، وإنما كانا يتحددان وفقاً للمتطلبات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في كل مرحلة مع ملاحظة الأهمية النسبية التي يحظى بها الشأن الاجتماعي في السياسة الاقتصادية في سورية.
