As a follow-up, a meeting of the heads of the security and intelligence services of the EU Member States and Norway and Switzerland agreed that existing cooperation should be strengthened for the purpose of countering the increasing terrorist threat.

The meeting was followed up by a meeting of the Ministers responsible for Security, Internal Affairs, Defence and Justice in Freetown on 17 April. At that meeting, agreement was reached to set up a Joint Security Committee of the Mano River Union, which would include a technical committee to advise the Joint Security Committee and joint border security and confidence-building units.
