• The decrease in post requirements reflects the net effect of interrelated proposals to strengthen the delivery of documentation services, comprising: (a) the proposed establishment of five new P-4 posts for revisers to provide adequate staff resources at the requisite grade level with a view to ensuring quality control of external translations in accordance with section V, paragraph 10, of General Assembly resolution 61/236; (b) the reclassification of a General Service (Other level) post to the P-2/1 level in the Editorial Control Unit to provide an Associate Editor post with a view to enhancing upstream editorial outreach activities in order to improve the quality and timeliness of submissions from author departments; (c) the inward redeployment of one General Service (Principal level) post from the Planning, Coordination and Meetings Section under subprogramme 2 to the Editorial Control Unit to strengthen the editorial outreach project of the Service; (d) the redeployment of one P-3 post to the Electronic Publishing Unit under subprogramme 4 to strengthen the production capacity of that Unit; (e) the proposed abolition of five P-3 posts in the Translation and Text-Processing Sections related to the strengthening of the quality control functions of the translation services through the establishment of reviser posts at the requisite grade level as referred to above; and (f) the proposed abolition of one General Service (Other level) post owing to the combined effect of the return on the Department's investment in technology and the re-engineering of workflow processes in the context of streamlining conference services. The non-post requirements of $2,908,400 relate to temporary assistance for meetings, reflecting a decrease of $982,600 related to the estimated cost avoidance resulting from improved meetings planning and the implementation of such measures as the consolidation of reports, the enforcement of page limits and the streamlining of workflow processes.
