To test the linguistic quality of translations, a conference management survey was conducted by the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management among eight governmental bodies and subsidiaries of the United Nations for the period from 5 November to 10 December 2004, on the basis of the following criteria: accuracy as to translations, omissions, additions, shifts of emphasis; facts, figures, quotations, footnotes, references, reference materials provided by the author department, terminology and background information; style as to clarity, straightforwardness, natural and idiomatic language, grammar, spelling and punctuation, in conformity with United Nations editorial guidelines and practice; consistency as to terminology, proper names, identical word combinations, phrases and sentences throughout the document; and format in conformity with the structure of the edited original.
ولاختبار جودة الترجمات من الناحية اللغوية، أجرت إدارة شؤون الجمعية العامة والمؤتمرات دراسة استقصائية لإدارة المؤتمرات في ثماني هيئات حكومية وأجهزة فرعية للأمم المتحدة في الفترة من 5 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر إلى 10 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2004، استندت فيها إلى المعايير: الدقة من حيث الترجمة والإغفال والإضافة وتحويل التركيز؛ والحقائق والأرقام والاقتباسات والحواشي والمراجع، والمواد المرجعية التي توفرها الإدارة المقدمة للوثيقة، والمصطلحات والمعلومات الأساسية؛ والأسلوب من حيث الوضوح، والأمانة، واللغة الطبيعية والاصطلاحية، والنحو، والهجاء، وعلامات التنقيط، وفقا للمبادئ التوجيهية والممارسات التحريرية للأمم المتحدة؛ والاتساق من حيث المصطلحات، وأسماء الأعلام، والتراكيب المؤلفة من نفس الكلمات، والعبارات والجمل الواردة في الوثيقة بأسرها؛ والشكل وفقا لبنية النص الأصلي المحرر.
