• Such a density of juvenile fish in mangrove waters has been attributed mainly to three underlying causes: (a) an abundance of appropriate food for juvenile fish in mangrove estuaries; (b) minimal risk of predation by large fish due to the reduced visibility in turbid mangrove waters; and (c) structural complexity of mangroves, which affords excellent shelter and protection for juveniles.100
