Interviews with TNC managers in Uganda, for example, reveal a number of shortcomings that are attributed to SMEs in that country: lack of quality; high production cost; unreliability; lack of business licences, receipt and invoice books, tax identification numbers, bank accounts, and fixed and traceable places of business; and limited access to funding and credit, and hence a preference for cash transactions, which are not acceptable to many TNCs (Zake et al., 2005).
