At the United Nations, outsourcing of translations is used in a limited number of circumstances such as: (a) an “overflow valve” allowing the in-house translation services to divert to outside contractors work that they cannot handle within established deadlines; (b) an inescapable necessity for handling languages for which there is no or limited in-house capacity; and (c) an arrangement considered as the most efficient for processing publications which are often lengthy, have long deadlines and would otherwise tie up for long periods considerable in-house capacity needed to handle parliamentary or other urgent documents.
ويستعان في الأمم المتحدة بمصادر خارجية للترجمة في عدد محدود من الظروف من قبيل ما يلي: (أ) "كصمام تصريف" يسمح لدوائر الترجمة الداخلية بإحالة العمل الذي لا يمكن لها إنجازه في المواعيد المحددة إلى متعاقدين خارجيين؛ (ب) كضرورة لا مفر منها للترجمة من اللغات التي لا توجد أي قدرات داخلية للترجمة منها أو توجد قدرات محدودة فحسب؛ (ج) كترتيب يعتبر هو الأكثر فعاليةً لتجهيز المنشورات التي غالباً ما تكون مطولة ولها مواعيد تسليم طويلة الأجل وتوجب لولا ذلك أن تُخصص لها على مدى فترة طويلة من الزمن قدرات داخلية كبيرة يُحتاج إليها لترجمة وثائق الهيئات التداولية أو غيرها من الوثائق العاجلة.
