We should like in this connection to refer to the statement of Mr. Hans von Sponeck, the humanitarian coordinator in Iraq who tendered his resignation on 31 March 2000, to the effect that the main reason for his resignation was his conviction that, for the most part, resolution 1284 (1999) could not be implemented. This was also the case with the other United Nations officials who resigned.
ونود في هذا المجال أن نشير إلى ما ورد على لسان السيد هانز فان سبونيك منسق الشؤون الإنسانية في العراق الذي قدم استقالته في 31 آذار/مارس 2000 (إن السبب الرئيسي لاستقالتي يرتبط بقناعتي بأن القرار (1284) غير قابل للتطبيق في جزء كبير منه) وكذا الحال بالنسبة لبقية موظفي الأمم المتحدة الذين استقالوا.
