Also noteworthy were the Special Committee's assessments on the impact of exposure to nuclear energy: while the generation of electrical energy by nuclear power plants had grown steadily, the doses to which the public was exposed were generally small, and had decreased over time because of lower discharge levels; and the exposure of workers to radiation in commercial nuclear power plants had been falling steadily over the past three decades, whereas occupational exposure to natural sources of radiation had remained constant.
