Overall, efforts to reduce service costs were conditioned by: (a) equipment specifications and network design aimed at increasing the number of users per VSAT; (b) development of techniques making it possible to reduce the required satellite bandwidth (which dealt with high-level modulations, robust to-satellite transponder non-linearities, adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) options and hub canceller techniques); and (c) bringing about cooperation between operators and manufacturers in order to achieve economies of scale that would in turn be reflected in lower service fees.
