On 18 August 2000, it was reported that the IDF had officially expressed regret over the death of Mahmoud Abdullah, 73, from the West Bank village of Sudra. Abdullah had been shot and killed the previous Wednesday by soldiers from the crack undercover unit after he had opened fire against them from the roof of his home in the belief that they were robbers.
