• The United Nations Geographic Information Working Group, in collaboration with partner entities of the United Nations system such as ECA and several regional and global initiatives, supports the development of the Second Administrative-level Boundaries project, which provides up-to-date contact information for national mapping agencies (for further information, see www.unsalb.org).

• In addition to providing the international community with validated information regarding the administrative structure of Member States (historical changes, maps) the Second Administrative Level Boundaries (SALB) data set project is now providing contact information for national mapping agencies in collaboration with other United Nations partners, such as ECA, the Department of Public Information of the Secretariat and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as several regional and global initiatives.

• The Unit provides strategic planning, including through three Working Groups under the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), coordination, including weekly meetings of the United Nations country team and numerous other mechanisms, information management, including mapping, scheduling, contacts and reports management for the United Nations country team, advocacy (a range of products and activities on joint priorities), reporting, including the Resident Coordinator's annual report and United Nations country team results, monitoring and evaluation (in the future with a particular focus on the implementation of UNDAF), and frequent support services to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator) and the United Nations country team.
