We are informed by highly respected Africanist scholars that, in fact, there is nothing abnormal or extraordinary in such a regression, since it only constitutes a return to the “normalcy of a very long history of conflict and warfare” that was briefly interrupted by a colonial Pax Britannica, or la paix coloniale, which were able briefly to control but not totally to eliminate it.
