Deployment of the new technology, particularly broad-band Internet transmission, to create an infrastructure that would allow the United Nations to transmit daily and, where possible, instantaneous, images and/or finished news segments that could be used by television stations worldwide, was an essential element of that endeavour, which required the pooling of the joint resources of the system as a whole.
