Over the past year, there has been an increase in terrorist-related threats against United Nations personnel and installations in the field, including threats to use mail bombs and/or chemical/biological weapons. Since 1 October 2001, United Nations offices around the world have received numerous bomb threats and 12 threats of chemical/biological contamination.
