• Where there are no official records relating to the victim, or where there is doubt as to the victim's true age, as may happen in the event of delay in registering a birth, or in remote areas or among nomadic groups, an expert opinion is required. As a rule, a team consisting of a forensic medical specialist, a qualified radiologist and radio imagery specialist, and an orthopaedic surgeon is formed, and the victim is subjected to an external examination (to identify signs of maturity in both sexes) and a dental examination. His or her left wrist is than X-rayed to determine his or her age from ossification points and the bone marrow.
  في حال غياب سجلات رسمية للضحية أو كان هناك شك في العمر الحقيقي للضحية - وهذا قد يحصل عندما يتم تأخير تسجيل المولود في السجلات المدنية كما هي الحال في بعض المناطق النائية أو مع البدو الرحل - فإنه يتم اللجوء إلى تشكيل فريق خبرة فنية يكون مؤلفاً على الأغلب من طبيب شرعي وأخصائي في علم الأشعة والتصوير الشعاعي وأخصائي في الجراحة العظمية ويتم فحص الضحية ظاهرياً (كفحص علامات البلوغ بالنسبة للجنسين وفحص الأسنان) وإجراء صور شعاعية لمعصم اليد اليسرى وذلك لتحديد العمر العظمي للضحية من خلال نقاط التعظم والمشاشات العظمية والذي يتطابق كما هم معروف عالمياً بنسبة 95 في المائة مع العمر الحقيقي.
