The other (and older) vector control intervention with wide applicability is indoor residual spraying: the application of insecticides to the inner surfaces of dwellings, where anopheline mosquitoes often rest after taking a blood-meal, with the aim of reducing their life span to such an extent that they cannot transmit malaria.
