243-244, and A/51/645, paras. 229-232), the general subject of deep-sea biodiversity, as well as the specific issues of the genetic resources of the deep seabed beyond national jurisdiction and of the high seas, raise important questions. They relate not only to the protection and preservation of the marine environment, including that of the international seabed area and the high seas, but also to such matters as the application of the regime for marine scientific research, the duties to conserve and manage the living resources of the high seas and the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in general.
