A scientific article entitled “Meta-Analysis of Natural Therapies for Hyperlipidemia: Plant Sterols and Stanols Versus Policosanol”, published in Pharmacotherapy in 2005, reports that plant stanols and sterols, available in the United States, are well tolerated and safe, but that policosanol (PPG) is more effective than the others in reducing LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and is much better for the patient, because the dosage is only one tablet a day, it is much cheaper and it has greater potential for cardiovascular benefits.
وجاء في مقال علمي معنون ”تحليل نتائج العلاج الطبيعي لفرط الشحوم في الدم: الستيرول والستانول النباتيان مقابل دواء البوليكوسانول“، نُشر في مجلة Pharmacotherapy سنة 2005، أن الستانول والستيرول النباتيين المتوفرين في الولايات المتحدة يمكن تعاطيهما بأمان، بيد أن البوليكوسانول أكثر فعالية من سابقيه فيما يختص بمستوى خفضه لمادة LDL (الكوليسترول السيئ) وأفضل كثيرا للمريض بما أنه ليس عليه أن يبتلع سوى حبة واحدة يوميا، كما أنه أزهد ثمنا كثيرا ويمكن أن يحقق منافع أكبر لأوعية القلب.

A representative collection of products from the three small island developing States regions (Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and South China Sea; Caribbean; and Pacific) showcased the creativity and potential of the islands' agricultural, artisanal and cultural industries including agricultural and fishery products; sugar, rum, dried/tinned foods and tinned fish; fine art, ceramics and pottery; basketry and straw works; leather goods; jewellery and metal craft; natural and herbal therapy products; and woodcraft and home furnishings.
