• After the Beijing +5 international conference, public discussion intensified and waves of pressure mounted - following Lebanon's ratification of CEDAW - for the lifting of the reservations to several of its clauses. This coincided with the growing, Arab public concern since the First Arab Women's Summit - attended by Arab first ladies and official and civil women's leaders - and subsequent conclusion of the agreement establishing the Arab Women's Organization and its institutions, the start of its activity and allocation of the budget contributions of the Arab States. The Government of Lebanon engaged with, committed to and supported this process but did not include the topic on its political agenda.
  بعد المؤتمر الدولي بيجين+5 تكثف الحديث العام حول القضية وتصاعدت موجات الضغط - بعد إبرام لبنان اتفاقية سيداو - لرفع التحفظات عن بعض بنودها، ومع تصاعد الاهتمام العربي العام منذ انعقاد القمة العربية الأولى للمرأة التي ضمّت السيدات العربيات الأول وقيادات نسائية رسمية ومدنية، ومن ثمّ إبرام اتفاقية إنشاء المنظمة العربية للمرأة وإنشاء مؤسساتها والبدء بعملها وتخصيص مساهمات (أنصبة) للدول العربية في موازنتها، فإن الحكومة اللبنانية انخرطت في هذا السياق والتزمت به وتعاونت، إلا أنها لم تدرج هذا الموضوع على أجندتها السياسية.
