According to the author, the judicial authorities waited for the outcome of the investigation conducted by the inspector of the Tax Control Office before bringing him to trial, and the information provided by the tax inspector was used in the preliminary inquiry against him and formed the main basis for his conviction.

2.5 On 11 April 2001, the tax inspector of `s Gravenhage assessed the author's tax declaration for 2000, adding an amount of 10,701 NLG (24 per cent of the company car's catalogue price of 44,590 NLG) to his taxable income and deducting the 4,566 NLG that the author had paid to his employer for the private use of the company car.
2-5 وفي 11 نيسان/أبريل 2001، قيّم مفتش الضرائب في منطقة إس غرافنهاغي ('s Gravenhage) الإعلان الضريبي لصاحب البلاغ لعام 2000 وأضاف مبلغ 701 10 غيلدراً (24 في المائة من ثمن سيارة الشركة المحدد في الدليل وهو 590 44 غيلدراً) إلى دخله الخاضع للضريبة واقتطع 566 4 غيلدراً كان صاحب البلاغ قد دفعها إلى رب عمله عن استعماله سيارة الشركة في أغراض شخصية.
