What a bleak life that is denuded of heavenly music of Pythagoras, of Platonic ideal forms, of Aristotelian logic, politics, and metaphysics, of Plotinus's all-pervasive insight, of the divine wisdom propounded by Farabi, Avicenna and Averroes; where Suhravardi's illuminationist intuition is absent, the sacred folly and unique wisdom of the Greeks is lacking; where there is no sign to be found of the stormy sea of Persian mystical poetry, or of the silken softness of Arabic lyrics, or of the whiteness of cherry blossoms and Japanese Hai Kus; where the beautiful and beauty-seeking heart of Ibn al-Arabi and Meister Eckhart, and the restless nights of the romanticists and the enlightened age of 18th century thinkers remain unknown.
وما هي الحياة في الحق بدون البسمة البوذية والمحبة المسيحية والرحمة الموسوية تجاه المقهورين، والنار والمياه الزرادشتية وروعة البيان القرآني؟ لكم تكون الحياة كئيبة لو فُرِّغت من موسيقى فيثاغور السامية ومثاليات أفلاطون ومنطق أرسطو وعلومه السياسية وماورائياته ونظرة أفلاطينوس النافذة وحكمة الفارابي وابن سينا وابن رشد؛ حيث لا وجود فيها لحدس السهروردي الإشراقي ولا ميثولوجيا اليونانيين وحكمتهم الفريدة من نوعها؛ حيث لا إشارة إلى الشعر الصوفي الفارسي الذي يهدر هدير البحر أو للقصائد العربية الناعمة نعومة الحرير أو أزهار الكرز البيضاء أو شعر الهايكوس الياباني؛ حيث يبقى في غياهب الجهل قلب كل من ابن عربي وميستر إيكهارت، المحب الذي ينشد الجمال، وليالي الرومانسيين البيضاء وعصر مفكري القرن الثامن عشر التنويري.
