(d) Improvement of information and communication technology infrastructures, including expansion of the private automatic branch exchange (PABX): $195,000.

(i) Fit-out of all new office space information and communications technology infrastructure, which includes the local area network, private automatic branch exchanges, telephone cabling and telecommunication lines;

(vi) Operation and maintenance of about 14,000 telephone and fax lines connected to the private automatic branch exchange (PABX) at Headquarters and implementation of approximately 10,000 user requests for moves and changes;

The proposed additional Communications Assistant (Field Service) position will ensure the proper functioning of the mission's very small aperture terminal (VSAT), high frequency (HF)/very high frequency (VHF), Thuraya and private automatic branch exchange (PABX) equipment.

(c) The cost of communications support services to cover centralized wide area network (WAN) support to allow access to the global private automatic post exchange (PABX) and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations global support services ($41,800);

The “One Network” launched in Mozambique in August 2008 is an example of efficiency savings: WFP is implementing a United Nations telecommunications network that links the 20 United Nations agencies in the country; its private automatic branch exchange, very small aperture terminals and potential for common databases and mailing lists are expected to enable savings that can be allocated to programmes.

In particular, the Committee and the Information Technology Services Division have been sharing information on several issues of common interest, such as the security of information technology, Internet policies, privacy protection, private automatic branch exchange technologies, personnel issues, information technology policies and enterprise resource planning systems.

The Information Technology Services Division has initiated or actively participated in the electronic sharing of information on several strategic issues of common interest, such as the security of information technology, Internet policies, privacy protection, private automatic branch exchange (PABX) technologies and sharing of experience and plans concerning PABX, personnel issues, information technology policies, enterprise resource planning systems etc.

(a) The amount of $3,500,000 to replace the current private automatic branch exchanges (PABX) telephony system at the United Nations Office at Nairobi, as the current system is at the end of its lifecycle, and spare parts for it are no longer available;

(e) Electronic services: provision of a communication and information technology infrastructure, including replacement/maintenance of software, hardware and telecommunications equipment; development and maintenance of local software applications; coordination with Headquarters on centrally developed applications; information infrastructure enhancements for Local Area Network (LAN) and private automatic branch exchange (PABX) systems; installation and monitoring of intrusions detection systems; and ongoing operations support, including support and maintenance for the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS).
