42% of all pregnant women were immunized against tetanus (TT2 or Booster) in 1990 and 34% in 1991.

Global immunization coverage rates were 73 per cent for three doses of combined diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus vaccine (DPT), 79 per cent for tuberculosis vaccine, 75 per cent for three doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV), 72 per cent for measles vaccines and 53 per cent for two or more doses of tetanus toxoid vaccine (TT2 plus). Economic crisis, heavy debt burdens and armed conflict continued to impede further improvements in global coverage rates.
