Certain category 2 or 3 tankers carrying heavy grade oil as cargo, fitted only with double bottoms or double sides, not used for the carriage of oil and extending to the entire cargo tank length, or double-hull spaces not meeting the minimum distance protection requirements which are not used for the carriage of oil and extend to the entire cargo tank length, may be allowed by their administration to operate beyond 5 April 2005 until the date when the ship reaches 25 years of age after its delivery date.

Certain category 2 or 3 oil tankers fitted with only double bottoms or double sides not used for the carriage of oil and extending to the entire cargo tank length or double-hull spaces and not meeting the minimum distance protection requirements may be allowed to continue operation beyond 2010, provided that the ship was in service on 1 July 2001, that the administration is satisfied by verification of the official records that the ship complied with the conditions specified and that those conditions remain unchanged.
ويجوز السماح لأنواع معينة من الفئة 2 أو 3 من ناقلات النفط المجهزة فقط بقاع مزدوج أو جوانب مزدوجة لا تستعمل في نقل النفط تمتد بطول الناقلة، أو التي توجد فراغات فاصلة في بدنها المزدوج لا تفي بشروط المسافة البينية الدنيا المحددة بغرض الحماية بأن تواصل العمل بعد عام 2010، شريطة أن تكون السفينة موجودة بالخدمة في 1 تموز/يوليه 2001، وأن تقتنع الإدارة عن طريق التحقق من السجلات الرسمية بأن السفينة قد امتثلت بالشروط المحددة وأن هذه الشروط ما زالت سارية ولم تتغير.
