The Registry, headquartered in Berlin, is the national coordination agency of the Network Office for Municipal Commissioners for Women's Affairs and Equal Opportunities and their national spokeswomen.

Since 1999, women's networks have been built up in the different regions, which are co-ordinated by a supranational network of spokeswomen from the regions.

• Organizations of indigenous midwives and female health outreach workers have taken on the role within their communities and with the local and health authorities as spokeswomen on issues that particularly affect the rights and welfare of indigenous women;

Here, we take note with satisfaction of the Windhoek Declaration and the Namibia Plan of Action on Mainstreaming a Gender Perspective in Multidimensional Peace Support Operations. As we have been doing elsewhere within the Organization, we urge the Secretary-General to appoint more women as Special Representatives and Special Envoys, and as his spokeswomen during missions of good offices related to peace and preventive diplomacy. We also appeal to Member States to take due account of the gender perspective when making national, regional and international appointments.
