They are used for general illumination and for special applications such as tanning lamps, black lights, and germicidal lamps.

There are also mechanisms such as the ultraviolet lamps (“black lights”) which are used to verify the authenticity of documents such as passports which are equipped with certain security features.

Our ports of entry also have ultraviolet lamps (“Black Lights”) which officers can use in the event they are suspicious of a document especially if the document used (i.e.) passports has security features which can be seen under the said mechanism.
