Mongolia has over 8,000 deposits of 44 different natural resources such as copper, oil, coal, molybdenum, gold, uranium, lead, zinc, zeolites, rare earth elements, tungsten, phosphates, tin, nickel, fluorspar, and precious and semi-precious stones.

With regard to the mining sector, during 2000 an environmental impact assessment was undertaken of the acid wash wastes from a fluorspar mining company in Kenya, and a workshop was organized in Perth, Australia for 25 mining countries, including three from Africa, to examine environmental regulations for accident prevention in mining.
وفيما يتعلق بقطاع التعدين، جرى خلال عام 2000 إجراء تقييم أثر بيئي لنفايات غسيل الأحماض من شركة تعدين للحَجر الفلوري بكينيا، وتم تنظيم حلقة عمل في بيرث، في استراليا لـ 25 شركة تعدين شملت ثلاث من أفريقيا، وذلك لدراسة الضوابط البيئية لمنع الحوادث في التعدين.
