The essential principle is that the media should not beallowed to pander to the public’s prurience under cover ofprotecting the public interest.

At the same time, it is widely acknowledged (except by mosteditors and journalists) that a great deal of media intrusion issimply an abuse of press freedom, with the sole aim of boostingcirculation by feeding public prurience.
